Many people are heavy drinkers and never stop to consider the short term effects of alcohol on their life and the lives of their family. Perhaps it is because they justify it by thinking that since alcohol is legal that there cannot be anything wrong with it or perhaps because they hold a full time job that somehow it cannot be that bad. There are a number of different short term effects of alcohol however that can lead to bigger problems in your life that you should be aware.
Not only does excessive drinking have a definite impact on your health it can affect your family and friends, as well as your job and your ability to drive. It can also cause your happiness and outlook on life to take a beating till one day you find that you have hit bottom and no longer are you simply a heavy drinker but a full blown alcoholic whose entire life is affected and destroyed by that drink you cannot do without.
If you suffer from some of the following short term effects of alcohol then it is important that you seek treatment now before the problem gets out of control and you cannot stop. One of the first affects you will see from your drinking will be those on your family. This can manifest in a number of different ways, you may find yourself losing your temper at your family members more frequently, or you may find that they are frustrated with you never being home, or spending any time with them. Family members may be making excuses for you, or your drinking may have completely alienated you with your family.
Personally you may find that you are angry and or depressed all of the time, or for some people drinking can make them angry when they may be easy going and fun to be around the rest of the time. Anxiety can also become a problem for a drinker and this is a problem that can create a vicious cycle, the drinking can cause anxiety and then you drink more to relieve the anxiety however in the end it only makes it worse.
You can lose friends with your drinking particularly if you are one of these for whom drink creates personality changes, if you find that your friends are avoiding you, you may want to consider whether the alcohol has anything to do with it. You may start to be late to work or have conflicts with other employees or you may end up losing your driver’s license making it impossible for you to get to work. Many people do not think these short term effects of alcohol will affect them, they live in denial to the day that the problem causes them to hit bottom and they look around to see their whole lives are gone.
